Born on April 5, 1950 in Zayarsk, Bratsk District, Irkutsk Region. Education: Irkutsk State Medical Institute (1967–1973), clinical residency at the Department of Hospital Surgery (1973–1975).
In 1975, he began working as a pulmonary surgeon at the Irkutsk Regional Clinical Hospital. In 1976, he was invited to the position of assistant at the Department of Hospital Surgery at IGMI.
He was one of the first in Russia to develop methods of endovascular surgery for the diagnosis and treatment of acute myocardial infarction, pulmonary and gastric bleeding, and inflammatory abdominal diseases. He was one of the initiators of the creation of the regional center for X-ray contrast research technologies. For the development of endovascular surgery methods in 1979, he was awarded the title of Laureate of the Irkutsk Regional Committee of the All-Union Leninist Young Communist League named after Academician M.K. Yangel. The result of his research in this area was the defense of his candidate's dissertation "Endovascular Therapy and Surgery of Lung Diseases" in 1983, and his doctoral dissertation "Diagnostics and Treatment of Pulmonary Hemorrhage" in 1990.
In 1991, he was elected by competition to the position of professor, and in 1993, to the position of head of the department of hospital surgery at the Institute of International Medical Research. In 1993, he was also approved as director of the Institute of Surgery at the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, which in 1998 was transformed into the Scientific Center for Reconstructive and Restorative Surgery of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, and later into the Irkutsk Scientific Center for Surgery and Traumatology, which he headed until 2015. He currently works as the scientific director of the center.
In 1999, he was elected a Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, and in 2014, of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
E.G. Grigoriev is one of the leading specialists in purulent surgery. The result of his research in this area was the opening in 1987 of one of the first surgical infection centers in Russia at the IOCB and the creation of a scientific school. E.G. Grigoriev put forward a number of fundamentally new provisions on the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of surgical infection: postoperative intestinal fistulas, acute destructive lung diseases, peritonitis, pancreatic necrosis, and sepsis. This topical problem is covered in the monographs "Surgery of Postoperative Peritonitis", "Surgery of Severe Purulent Processes", "Hospital Infection in a Multidisciplinary Surgical Clinic", "Peritonitis: A Practical Guide", "Surgical Infections: A Practical Guide", "Sepsis. A Practical Guide". Scientific Achievements of E.G. Grigorieva and his colleagues in this field were awarded the Government Prize in Science and Technology in 2002.
In 2002–2015, he headed the surgical service of the Siberian Federal District as a freelance specialist of the Russian Ministry of Health.
E.G. Grigorieva’s contribution to the development of treatment methods for complicated colon cancer, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, and diverticular disease of the colon is widely recognized. On the initiative of E.G. Grigorieva, a specialized regional center for surgical proctology was created on the basis of the IOKB in 1989. In 2014–2022, he worked as the chief freelance proctologist of the Siberian Federal District. The results of his work are reflected in the monographs “Surgery of a colostomy patient”, “Sphincter-preserving operations on the rectum”, “Ulcerative necrotic enterocolitis in newborns”, “Coloproctology. Clinical recommendations».
The long-term clinical research and observations of E.G. Grigoriev and his students are presented in 530 scientific papers. Among them are more than 30 monographs, textbooks on surgical diseases, national guidelines. The research results are enshrined in 34 patents for inventions. Under the scientific supervision of E.G. Grigoriev, 34 dissertations were defended for the title of candidate of sciences and 13 for the title of doctor of sciences.
Public activity:
From 1994 to 2015 - Chairman of the Dissertation Council for the defense of candidate and doctoral dissertations at Irkutsk State Medical University in the specialties of "surgery" and "dentistry". Since 2015 - Member of the Dissertation Council at KrasSMU in the specialties of "surgery" and "human anatomy".
Since 2013, Chairman of the Expert Group of the Surgical Profile of the Department of the Central Attestation Commission of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation in the Siberian Federal District.
